Clarisse Ducote appears to have been a half-sister to Melina Ducote, wife of Pierre S. Aymond.  Although apparently having different mothers, Zenon Ducote was the father of both women.

Notes for Etienne Aymond:

The St. Paul's baptism records are found under the Spanish writing of his name the way they pronounced it (Estevan Homo).  His godparents were Jacob Hooter and Margaret Simon.  His baptism did not take place until May 12, 1802, by Father Brady.  Etienne, Sr., (called "Stephen" in English) owned a plantation on Bayou Rouge in Avoyelles, La. as of 1827.  Stephen's children born after 1825 were the issue of his second marriage.

In the 1860 Census, we see that Etienne was considered wealthy for that time, as his real estate was worth about $15,000 and his personal property was valued at $4000.  Like his brothers, Michel and Pierre, Etienne sereved in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Consolidated Regiment of the La. Militia, at the Battle of New Orleans in the  War of 1812.  "Rapides Parish Pensioners in the War of 1812"; opcit; at p. 2.  According to the 1820 Census, Etienne was a slave owner.  From the January 7, 1846 Permission to marry which he executed for his daughter Clemintine, and which is filed in the Avoyelles Parish Courthouse, we see that Stephen was able to sign his name.

Notes for Etienne Aymond II:

According to "Some Early Families of Avoyelles Parish, La. "Vol. 2; By Gremillion (p. 14), Etienne was usually referred to by the English version of his name "Stephen".  According to the baptism record of Stephen's grandson, Onile S. Aymond, it appears that Stephen had another wife.  That Church of The Assumption of Choupique record states that Stephen was also married to Marie Aglaee Broussard.

Generation No. 5

        24.  Jean Pierre Baptiste Aymond, born Abt. 1760 in Mortsi, Bishopric of Strasbourg, Alsace, France; died Bef. 1824 in Avoyelles, La..  He was the son of 48. Michel Aymond and 49. Catherine Aron.  He married 25. Marie Anne Joffrion March 19, 1824 in Mt. Carmel Church Mansura, Avoyelles Parish, La..

        25.  Marie Anne Joffrion, born March 22, 1760 in Pointe Couee, La.; died in Avoyelles, La..  She was the daughter of 50. Pierre Joffrion and 51. Marianna Valleau.

Notes for Jean Pierre Baptiste Aymond:

According to the marriage records of his children, Jean's full name was Jean Baptiste Aymond.  Some of the St. Paul Catholic Church records of Mansura, La. (the only Church in Avoyelles until the mid-1800's) phonetically spelled the name "Hameau".

The Priest from St. Paul's apparently would travel around to conduct marriages and baptisms.  Therefore, Church records often show baptisms a year or so after the date of birth.  Most of Jean and Marieanne's children were married at Marianne's home and after Jean had died.

In the late 1700's there were Spanish posts at Pointe Coupee and at Rapides (present day Pineville, La.).  Traders from Pointe Coupee traded with the Indians along the Red River in Avoyelles.   Marksville was not settled by Marc Eliche until 1796, and did not become a town until 1843 (See: "Avoyelles; Crossroads of Louisianna"; La. Comm. des Avoyelles & Dr. Sue Eakin; Moran Publishing Corp.; Baton Rouge, La.; (1981) p. 5.  Immediately after their marriage in New Orleans, we loose track of Jean and Marianne.  Church records show that Jean II was born while the family resided on Bayou Boeuf.  However, Jean applied to the Spanis governor for permission to settle on the North side of the Red River in Rapides Post in 1789 ("Rapides Post on Red River, Census and Military Documents for Central Louisiana, 1769-1800"; By Winston De Ville; Ville Platte, La. (1985); p. 26).  Jean and Marianne appear upon the Spanish Census of both 1792 and 1799 as residing in Rapides Parish, while St. Paul baptism and marriage records list them as residing in Avoyelles.  It appears that Jean and Marianne probably lived near the Center Point area near the line separating what later became Avoyelles and Rapides Parishes.  Other church records tate that their home was in Pointe Maigre (Avoyelles Parish on the North side of the Red River).

The Spanish Census of 1792 shows Jean and Marianne as having 2 male children, 2 female children, 2 slaves, 10 horses and 25 head of cattle (id. p. 39).  The 1799 Census shows that Jean and Marianne were both over 50 years of age, had 6 children at home, no slaves, 10 horses and 25 head of cattle ("Rapides Post-1799"; By: Winston DeVille; Genealogical Publishing Co.; Baltimore, Md.; (1968); p. 6.

Children of Jean Aymond and Marie Joffrion are:

                           i.               Mary Catherine Aymond, born Bef. April 04, 1785; married John Reed.

Notes for Mary Catherine Aymond:

For some reason, Mary was listed as the head of her household in the 1820 Census.  Is it possible that John Reed had died in 1820, leaving Mary pregnant with their last child, who was then born after this census?

ii.               Pierre Aymond, born Bef. April 05, 1785; married Eloise Louise Dauzat January 14, 1824 in Avoyelles, La..

Notes for Pierre Aymond:

Pierre filed a land claim for property at Long Prairie in Avoyelles Parish, La. "Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Northeast, La."; Southern Publishing Co.; Nashville, Tenn.; (18900); p. 606.  Pierre served with hiis 2 brothers, Michel and Etienne in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Consolidated regiment of the Louisiana in the Battle of New Orleans, during the War of 1812"; at p. 2.  Pierre was a slave owner according to the 1820 Census.

Pierre's son Jean was born in 1822, so he and Eloise were probably married in a civil ceremoney before that time.  Eloise married her first husband, Claude Recouly, on Sept. 2, 1806.  Claude later died.

Notes for Eloise Louise Dauzat:

Referred to in some records as "Louise" in her daughter's marriage records.  Her sister, Roseline, married her brother-in-law, Jean Aymond II.

Marriage Notes for Pierre Aymond and Eloise Dauzat:

Eloise (also referred to in some records as "Loise"), was the widow of Claude Recouly.  It is likely that she and Pierre were married in a civil ceremony before the subsequent blessing of their marriage by a Catholic ceremony on Jan. 14, 1824.  Their marriage record in "Early Marriage Records; St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church; 1806-1830": Translated by: Alberta Rousseau

Ducote, G.R.S.; p. 8.

Notes for Michel Aymond:

This is the grandson of Michel and Catherine Aron who came to La. from France.  His surname was mispelled by the Spanish priest that baptised him as "Jamon".  Michael LaCroix and Michel's sister, Mary, were his godparents.  Michel Aymond claimed land at Bayou du Lac in Avoyelles Parish, La.  "Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Northeast Louisiana"; Southern Publishing Co.; Nashville, Tn.; p. 606.  Michel became an Avoyelles Parish Police Juror in 1830 (id., p. 608).  St. Paul baptism records for Michel's daughter Helene, in 1824, state that he resided in Pointe Maigre,  His brother Pierre claimed lands at Long Prairie and brother Jean II claimed lands at Point Maigre and above Bailey's Ferry (id. pp. 606-607).  Their brother Etienne (a.k.a. Stephen) became a Police Juror from Ward 1 of Avoyelles Parish in 1821 (id.; p. 608).  According to the St. Paul baptism records of 2 of  his daughters, in 1824 and 1827, he was a plantation owner in Pinte Maigre.

Michel (the 2nd) and Theoline Dupuis had a civil marriage sometime before their March 19, 1824 Church wedding.  Michel served in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Consolidated Regiment of the Louisiana Militia at the Bottle of New Orleans during the War of 1812.  "Rapides Parish Pensioners in the War of 1812"; Ed. By: Charles E. Raymond, Jr.; Polyanthos; New Orleans; (197); p. 2.

Michel's civil marriage was blessed by a Church marriage at his parents home in Avoyelles, on March 19, 1824 ( along with the marrages of his brothers Etienne and Jean II).

        49.  Catherine Aron, born Abt. 1725 in Mortsi, Bishopric of Strasbourg, Alsace, France; died Aft. 1800 in St. John The Baptist Parish, La..

Notes for Michel Aymond:

Church records show that Michel and Catherine Aymond, and two children, Jean and Marie, arrieved in Louisiana from Mortsi, Bishopric of Stransbourg, Alsace-France by 1771 ( at which time Marie married Noel Etienne Arvieux).  Those same records tell us that Michel and Catherine resided in St. John the Baptist Parish, La.  We do not know if any other children were left in France or came with them to La.

Children of Michel Aymond and Catherine Aron are:

                           i.               Marie Aymond, born Abt. 1752; died Abt. 1810; married Noel Etienne Arvieux August 06, 1771 in St. James Parish, La..

        50.  Pierre Joffrion, born in France.  He married 51. Marianna Valleau Abt. 1750 in Louisiana.

        51.  Marianna Valleau, born 1722 in La Rochelle, France.  She was the daughter of 102. Gabriel Valleau and 103. Marie Anne Morin.

Notes for Pierre Joffrion:

Much has been written on the genealogy of the Joseph Joffrion family of Pointe Coupee, which came from Canada and ultimately became the primary Joffrion line of Avoyelles Parish, La.  Joseph Joffrion II served as the Alcalde (similar to a mayor under the Spanish Colonial rule) of the Avoyelles Post.  However, most Avoyelles Parish enealogists have seen nothing to prove a link between our Pierre Joffrion and the Cnadian Joffrion line.  Also, recall that baptism records state the Pierre is a native of France, not Canada.  However, in the marriage records of Jean Aymond and Pierre's daughter Marianne, it states that Pierre is from Canada.  Our Pierre, as well as Joseph Joffrion I and Joseph Joffrion II, took the oath of allegiance to the King of Spain in Pointe JCoupee Post on Sept. 10, 1769.  " Louisiana Historical Quarterly; Vol. 4"; By: Louisiana Historical Society (1922); p. 210.

Of interest is the fact that the wife of Joseph Joffrion II, Marie Francoise Bouchard Joffrion, was godparent, along with Etienne Aymond of Aimee Fouquiere, the granddaughter of Jean Aymond I and Marrianne Joffrion.  Furthermore, Joseph Joffrion II's daughter, Helene Joffrion Lacour, was godmother to Charles Fouquiere II, along withe the child's maternal uncle, Michel Aymond.

Although not proven, I feel that all of these facts strongly indicate that our Pierre Joffrion was either a brother or a son of Joseph Joffrion I from Canada.

Child of Pierre Joffrion and unknown slave is:

                           i.               Edivise Joffrion, married Julien Berzatt August 16, 1818 in Avoyelles, La..

Notes for Edivise Joffrion:

Edivise was a freed Negro woman who was the natural daughter of Pierre Joffrion.  She married another freed Negro.

Children of Pierre Joffrion and Marianna Valleau are:

25               i.               Marie Anne Joffrion, born March 22, 1760 in Pointe Couee, La.; died in Avoyelles, La.; married Jean Pierre Baptiste Aymond March 19, 1824 in Mt. Carmel Church Mansura, Avoyelles Parish, La..

ii.               Catherine Joffrion, born Abt. 1750; married Charles Larche August 14, 1770 in Point Coupee Parish, La..

Notes for Catherine Joffrion:

Recall the it is believed tha Catherine is actually the daughter of Marianne Vallo;s 1st marriage to Andre' Simon.  When Marianne subsequently married Pierre Joffrion, and since he raise her, Catherine went by the name Joffrion.

        62.  Augustine Juneau.

Child of Augustine Juneau is:

31               i.               Justine Juneau, married (1) Daniel Gaspard Bef. 1808 in Avoyelles Parish, La.; married (2) Jacques Paul August 07, 1808 in Avoyelles Parish, La..

Generation No. 7

        102.  Gabriel Valleau, born Abt. 1700.  He married 103. Marie Anne Morin.

        103.  Marie Anne Morin, born Abt. 1702.

Notes for Gabriel Valleau:

Other derivations of this surname spelling are Vallot and Vallo, as seen from the colonial records.  In the late 1600's a large number of the Valleau family of La Rochell, France were protestant and fled to the East Coast of America (British Colonies).  According t legend, only 1 female stayed, because she converted to Catholic and became a nun.

It appears from the "Louisiana Historical Quarterly, Vol. 4", p. 240, that Gabriel had died by the time that his widow, Marie Anne (jean) Morin (or Merry) Valleau and their 6 year old daughter, Marie Anne Valleau, filed a contract with Claude Chardon, on Sept. 7, 1728 ( La. Historical Quarterly; Vol. 4; p. 498).  Apparently, her mother and stepfather died, as Marie Anne Valleau ( Gabriel's young daughter) was raised in the Convent of the Ursullines in New Orleans.

According to Mrs. Edna Rabalais, of Alexandria, La. ( in her January 31, 1983 letter to Mrs. Ina Aymond Plauche), Marie Ann Valleau (Gabriel's daughter) first married Andre Simon, on May 5, 1738, in New Orleans, La.  They had a daughter Catherine Simon.  Catherine was apparently raised by Pierre Joffrion after he married her mother.  Catherine Simon went by the surname Joffrion.  According to Mr. Nelson Gremillion (in a letter to Greg Aymond dated 11/19/1977, there were 2 other Simon sisters.  Marguerite Simon married Jacques Cuvillier on March 19, 1757 in Pointe Coupee Parish, La.  The other sister, Marie Louise Simon, married Francois Barre on April 21, 1765 in Pointe Coupee Parish, La.  Of course, Pierre and Marie Anne then had at least 1 child, Marie Anne Joffrion, who was our ancestor that eventually married Jean Baptiste Aymond.

Child of Gabriel Valleau and Marie Morin is:

51               i.               Marianna Valleau, born 1722 in La Rochelle, France; married Pierre Joffrion Abt. 1750 in Louisiana.
